Use Case
A PhD student testing the role of Gene X in melanoma metastasis injects Into immunocompromised mice human melanoma cells with and without Gene X knocked down. At the experimental endpoint, the mouse livers and brains are harvested, fixed, sectioned, and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Images of the resulting slides are scanned. Rather than painstakingly annotating each tumor by hand, the PhD student submits the H&E images to MetFinder. The student first peruses the resulting heatmaps next to the original H&E image to ensure that MetFinder has annotated tumors satisfactorily in their experiment. Assuming all looks good, the student can then use MetFinder’s quantification to compare groups and assess how Gene X knockdown affected the following:
- Number of metastases
- Metastasis area per section
- Metastasis burden as a percentage of metastatic area over total organ section area
